Berlin, also called ‘the vegan capital of Europe’, has been in top 3 vegan cities in the world in the last couple of years. Here is the list of top vegan cities in the world by HappyCow.
After hearing and dreaming about Berlin so much, I was too excited to see it. As I expected, in almost every restaurant, café or bar in Berlin, it is easy to see the vegan options along with countless all-vegan spots. Berlin literally fills you with hope and niceties. Now I remember myself walking through the streets of Berlin and grinning from ear to ear all the time.
Vegan Festival at the Heart of the City
Even though we had to plan a last-minute trip to Berlin, I was lucky enough to be there during Veganes Sommerfest (Vegan Summer Festival). It takes place in Alexanderplatz, one of the main squares in Berlin and it is free and open to the public. I was astonished to see so many vegan products ranging from vegan döners (vöner) to vegan shampoos or vegan clothing. Most of the vendors offer free samples to try their food, cosmetics, coffee or drinks. It was definitely better than my dreams.
Freedom for all
After overindulging ourselves, we went to see the Berlin Wall and the message in the last photo below meant a lot to me. Agreeing with the composer Kunjappu, I want to believe that one day all sentient beings (including all these innocent animals) will stop suffering from terror and repression and have their freedom.
